Modular Insulated Panel System
Frequently Asked Questions

Modular Insulated Panel FAQs

Q: What is the best process for attaching components such as exterior electrical conduit, unistrut, or fans to modular insulated metal panel walls & ceilings?

A: For all typical non-moving or non-daily use (trim, conduit, signage, etc.) attachment you can use drill tip sheet metal screws. For anything that will see any type of use (fans, light switches, receptacles, unistrut, etc.) we recommend using an expanding metal anchor to ensure a secure hold.

Q: Can I bolt through the insulated metal panel wall from inside to outside?

A: Creating a thermal bridge by fastening through the wall is not advised in most cases. For all typical non-moving or non-daily use (trim, conduit, signage, etc.) attachment you can use drill tip sheet metal screws. For anything that will see any type of use (fans, light switches, receptacles, unistrut, etc.) we recommend using an expanding metal anchor to ensure a secure hold.

Q: What is the best process for attaching components such as exterior electrical conduit, unistrut, or fans to composite insulated panel panels?

A: For all typical attachment Norseman recommends securing wall mounted items to blocking or structural members behind the wall. Expanding wall anchors or toggle bolts can be used for lightweight components in areas where no blocking or structural support is available, but care should be taken to prevent pullout.

Q: Can the modular insulated panels be installed directly against a cinderblock wall or is an air gap required?

A: Insulated metal wall panels can be installed directly against any existing wall. Norseman also has alternate modular panels system options to use against existing walls, depending on R-value needed.

Q: Can additional standard fiberglass insulation be put on top of an insulated metal ceiling panel?

A: Yes. However, the additional weight of the material will need to be calculated and support systems upgraded (if required) before installation.

Q: Can a different ceiling system be used with the insulated metal wall panels?

A: Yes. Various kinds of ceilings (such as acoustic drop-ceilings) can be used, just as would be done with a standard stud wall.

Q: Can any commercial door and jamb be used with modular panels?

A: Yes, almost any, as long as the proper jamb configurations are specified.

Q: Can any commercial window and frame be used with modular panels?

A: Almost any, as long as the proper frames are specified.

Q: Can Norseman provided doors be wired in for card reader access/electric entry?

A: Yes. In order to make your project as streamlined as possible Norseman would order the doors to accommodate the hardware to be used, thereby eliminating a considerable amount of site work during installation.

Q: Are modular insulated metal panels mold and mildew resistant?

A: Yes. Modular panels provide superior protection against mold and mildew. Norseman uses modular panels in agricultural and food service spaces in order to meet Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) guidelines.

Q: Does Norseman offer installation for modular insulated panels?

A: Yes. Norseman can provide an installation team to come and perform site installation.

Q: Are modular insulated metal panels suitable for foodservice conditions?

A: Yes, insulated panel systems are designed to prevent absorption and the growth of microbials, be easily cleaned and washed down, and completely sealed from both sides of the panel.

Q: Are modular insulated metal panels GMP compliant?

A: Yes, insulated panel systems are fully GMP (Good Manufacturing Process) compliant and has all of the certifications and approvals necessary for compliance review.

Q: Are modular insulated metal panels suitable for cold storage conditions?

A: Yes, insulated panel systems are perfect for cold storage due to the high insulation values, durability, washability, and they are sealed to prevent air/cold/heat loss.

Q: Are modular insulated metal panels suitable for grow rooms?

A: Yes, insulated metal panel systems are perfect for grow rooms due to the high insulation values, durability, washability, and they are sealed to prevent air/cold/heat loss.

Q: Are modular insulated metal panels suitable for cannabis/hemp extraction rooms?

A: Yes, insulated metal panel systems are perfect for cannabis/hemp extraction rooms due to the 1-hour fire rating, durability, washability, and they sealed to prevent contamination or escape of volatile compounds.

Q: Are modular insulated metal panels suitable for laboratories?

A: Yes, insulated metal panel systems are perfect for laboratories due to the 1-hour fire rating, durability, washability, and they sealed to prevent contamination or escape of volatile compounds.

Q: Does Norseman provide detailed drawings for the wall panels systems?

A: Yes, Norseman provides drawings of the panels themselves, including details and modular panel assembly instructions, as well as shop drawings of your entire project used to calculate quantities and to be used as an installation guide.

Q: Can modular panels be used as ceiling panels?

A: Yes, they are specifically designed to provide a well-insulated and walkable ceiling structure?

Q: Does Norseman provide structural calculations for the modular wall panels?

A: Yes, we can provide you with a full engineering calculation package for permit submission.

Q: Does Norseman Provide all of the trims, fasteners, and sealants required for installing modular panels?

A: Yes, we supply every accessory needed for installation.

Q: Is there a warranty on modular insulated metal panels?

A: Yes, warranties can be as long as 30 years.

Q: Can modular panels systems provide a walkable ceiling surface?

A: Yes, Norseman engineers each product to meet the load requirements of your ceiling to make them walkable, taking into account spans and panel thicknesses.

Q: Are modular insulated metal panels rust resistant?

A: Yes, the panels consist of galvanized steel with an impervious coating that protects them from water damage.
